The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a project of Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, partners with MADE SAFE® to provide cosmetic and personal care products companies with a way to certify their products as safe and nontoxic. MADE SAFE incorporates the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics’ Red List of Chemicals of Concern in Cosmetics into the product certification process.

MADE SAFE (Made With Safe Ingredients) verifies that products are made with ingredients not known or suspected to harm human health, animals, or ecosystems. It’s the only nontoxic certification in the country that crosses consumer product categories. For the first time, people can easily find and buy products that are safe for their bodies, families, and homes.

MADE SAFE evaluates products through a rigorous scientific process for known carcinogens, behavioral toxicants, developmental toxicants, endocrine disruptors, flame retardants, GMOs, synthetic biology, heavy metals, neurotoxicants, high-risk pesticides, reproductive toxicants, toxic solvents, or harmful VOCs. Ingredients are further examined for bioaccumulation (builds up in the body), persistence (builds up in the environment), as well as for general aquatic and animal toxicity.

MADE SAFE Ingredient Supporters believe in transparency and information. They work to get ingredient information through their Ingredient Diligence process. MADE SAFE Members are actively working toward certification and have products that Contain Made Safe Ingredients or are fully MADE SAFE certified.
