What brand(s) do you want to see on next year’s list of certified Non-Toxic Black Beauty Products?
To qualify as a CSC Top Non-toxic Black-Owned Beauty Brand, brands must 1) be Black owned, 2) market primarily to Black women, and 3) list all of the ingredients for their products on their websites or provide us with any missing product ingredients.
We then screen product ingredients through the Campaign’s Red List of “do not use” chemicals in cosmetics. Brands whose products contain any Red List chemicals do not qualify for CSC’s list. Brands with undisclosed fragrance ingredients, who do not certify their fragrance ingredients as free from the Red List “do not use” chemicals, do not qualify either.
The Black Beauty Project aims to help grow the safer Black beauty industry by 1) elevating Black-owned companies that sell non-toxic Black beauty and personal care products and 2) providing technical support to Black-owned beauty businesses that don’t make the list.
We offer personalized reports to companies that don’t make the list, identifying the Red List “do not use” ingredients of concern in their products and the related adverse health effects. We hope that companies use this information to reformulate their products so that we can include them on our next list.
Look out for our next list release!
